  • About Closed Loop system.

I will use 3ea 6100 tunze stream in my next sps tank(125or150gal)
but I am considering CL. But I am worried about 2 things.
    1. Is it possible breaking tank because of many holes.
    2. The Korea Electricity cost is more expensive than US.
so large pump for CL is burden.

What is minimum GPH of CL in 125gallon SPS tank?
When I use CL, Tunze is useless?
What is proper number of outlet for 125 SPS tank?

    Thanks..

but why not use tunze wavebox.. it work better then close loop...and a confirm movement of water even at the very little spot...

      TWB is better than CL?

      I plan to make cube tank (1m x 1m x 50cm: LxWxH).

TWB is working proper water flow in cube tank?

Use the right tool for the job, whether that be a wavebox, streams, closed loop, etc.

I use streams AND a closed loop on my tank. Closed loops are great for getting flow underneath the rock work - probably the best application of the technique in my opinion. If you want to run a spray bar underneath your rockwork for instance, you don't want to do it with your return because of the potential backsiphon issues, and it would be difficult to setup with a stream. If you're just looking for more flow, a wavebox or extra stream is the more efficient choice, provided you have room in your tank for it.

The down sides to a closed loop are heat and electricity. My closed loop pump draws 200w, which is twice as much as my return pump and streams COMBINED! And from studying my Aquacontroller logs (i.e. chiller run time while different devices are running) it looks like my closed loop pump adds about as much heat to the system as my metal halides. Since I only use the closed loop to keep the bottom clean, I've started running it on a timer. It's currently setup to run 30 minutes every 4 hours, but I just set that up this weekend so I don't know how well it will work.

Oh, I don't think you have to worry about drilling too many holes in your tank (within reason). I have 7 in the back wall of my tank and it's fine. I think the most important thing is to not have them too close together, or too close to the sides.

I think 3 6100 tunze stream is OK to keep 125gal SPS BB tank. but the Bottom cleaning
issue is my current worry. Making CL To overcome the issue is a burden to me.
What is a good answer to clean all of bottom side?

that is the issue.. no matter how many steam u put in.. there will be dead spot behind the rock or bottom etcs..

that why me going to tunze wavebox as it seem promising and able to create wave movement which will have 100% water movement through out the whole tank..

but it's a bit troublesome for my part as my tank are build with full euro brancing.. so I have to use a magnet holder instead..

Any tip on where I should place the wavebox..

I intend to place either at my overflow box area or at the very outer of the glass

hmm then I guess I will put on the front corner then.. that is my 2nd option..
cause my 1st option make me wonder, as I'm afraid the wavebox might suck in more dirt as it's at the overflow box area and also affect the overflow rate..

one more question can i place the wavebox in the mid of the heigh of the tank or must be on the very top of the tank and is only half submerb only.

Sorry vince for using your thread...
