  • Enlarging holes in glass eurobracing

Just received my OM Super Squirt and the Omni flex directional nozzles, but they don't fit through the predrilled holes in the eurobracing on my tank. Is it possible/practical to enlarge these holes? the braces are 6" wide and made of 1/2" float glass. They are 1 1/4" and need to be 1 5/8" so I would have to open them up by 3/8" of an inch.

    Thanks for any input

    Marshal,
I don't think I would even try. For me and my luck this would be the beginning of a big nightmare. Could you build a mount out of acrylic w/ a 1 5/8" hole that would clamp to the eurobracing?

I thought of that Chad, but with a 6" wide brace, the return nozzles would stick out pretty bad that far out into the tank. I think I will stop at HD or local tool outlet and see if I can find a 1" sanding drum with a good abrasive. Am I correct in assuming that any of the glass dust that ends up in the water wouldn't cause a problem? Seems to me that it would be an inert media. My biggest concern would be if some of of the dust got taken up through respritory (sp?) action of the animals.

I'm going to go w/ my Glad storage containers again on this one :hahano: . Maybe you could use something like this to keep dust from entering the tank by attaching under the work area and stuff would drop in. Glass dust might not be bad but I would'nt think the abraisives off the drum would be good. I don't know if a standard abrasive would cut it. I think they use a diamond bit to drill it. Maybe a glass shop would have some ideas?

go freaking slow if you do this. enlarging a hole by 1/4" is going to take a long time. Can you not just reduce the pipe you need to put through there

That's an idea Madison. I think I can get access to a lathe and turn down the collars, but I was hoping to be able to keep 1 or 2 links of the flex nozzle above the brace, but each elbow/45 has the same OD.
