  • What Brand Heater???? Won Crapped out Today

    Hi All,

Well we have a fair number of the Won Brothers heaters and today we had one crap out and electrically charge the water bin it was in....luckily it was just the liverock with no fish or corals. Anyhow we are in the middle of setting up the 220 gallon and thought we were all set on heaters.....now do not trust the Won Brothers.

What brand of heaters do you guys use/recommend? It will be hooked up through a Dual Stage Medusa with the chiller. Tank volume is about 200 gallons or so.

    Any adivice/opinions are appreciated.

    Thanks!

Heaters with a controller are your best bet. I use a Digital Won and it crapped out on me too. I replaced it with another Won as temporary and havent got around to replacing it. Im waiting on the Aqua Medic 1000w.

I have tried lots and lots of heaters. In general the POS part of them all across the board are the thermostat elements. Jagers, renas, wons, whatever. They all have lousy, cheap thermostats. A controller is a must IMO, b/c for whatever reasons, they aren't such POS. I am in the market for large heaters and hopefully either the aquamedic 1000w or I will just use a couple of won 1000w on a controller.

I have the same problem deciding which heater to get. It's pretty amazing that there aren't more reliable brands available, considering how important temperature control is in our tanks. IMO, temp swings (other than a small change over a long period of time) are some of the biggest stress factors for animals.

GER, I am looking into those commercial units that custom has. The "L" and "bayonet" units.
