After ALOT of checking this seems to be the real deal!

That's for the tip. I was putting off upgrading to Start2 because I didn't want to spring for a dosing pump right now. This should solve that problem nicely.

The only thing I noticed is that nowhere in the description did it say it was a new unit, so it could be used, refurbed, etc. At any rate, that's still a great price even if it turns out to be used.

Question: Does this item include the timer as pictured in your auction???

Here is the response I just got from the seller.

"Thank you for your purchase Todd. You raised a question that I had to check again. This item is shipped to you direct from my supplier. I have not held this item in my had or do I have one here to look at. I believe the vario 180 is the doser only, and the vario 3 plus is the one with the timer.(I am not absolute. I do know that my supplier is indicating this item to be the vario 3 plus. I can call and check Monday for you to be absolutely sure it is what you anticipate before ordering it to be shipped to you. You will be taken care of regardless of the outcome. I will drop you a note Monday after I speak to my rep. Regards, Jeff"

Oh man, I was so close to ordering all 3 that they had left when I placed my order. Well, I'm glad I at least got 1. Hopefully they will honor the orders and it will be as advertised.

BTW - I looked this up on the IKS site, and they say that the timer is sold separately. Still, I should be able to hook this thing up to my aquacontroller and use it to dose Start2 provided I can set the minimum dosage delivered low enough.

If you see what it says "The digital time-controller enables you to switch on the pump every hour for 2.5 or 10 seconds. That means: practically no concentration fluctuations. The smallest dosage is around a mere 0.05 ml!"

So maybe there is a way if you can get it to come on the same way.

Regardless, Mine IS! coming with the timer. Either that or he's gonna have one pissed of customer.

If using with a different timer (as I do), just be aware these pumps are not continously rated.

Just in case, which timer are you using and how do you have it setup?

The timer I am using is just a $5.00 al cheapo from the hardware store, it is actually called an Elto, not that that probably matters.
It has a series of pins around the turning bit, 4 for each hour, so the shortest amount of time I can run the pump for is 15 minutes. I emailed IKS to ask if this was OK, and they replied that it is. My pump is running for 15 minutes every 3 hours.
