  • About KZ carbon..

    Hi~ all~
    I changed KZ carbon yesterday.
and I found there are three types of component in carbon.

    1. a little grey ball
    2. real black carbon
    3. a little yellow somthing..

and Bob said number1 is helpful to reduce NO3. I know that...

    What is number3?

and I found KZ carbon is smaller than other brand carbon. so it could be
release to sump or main tank. How do you maintain KZ carbon in your sump?

    thanks~

Hi Vince, do you have a pix of these "yellow somethings"? I just checked mine K-Z carbon, & can not see this. Is anyone else finding "yellow" objects in their K-Z carbon? I'll ask Alexander to check this when he returns Monday Bob

interesting....you can not find yellow think correct?
the yellow think is found when I washed kz carbon to removing power of carbon.
It looks like a little ball and is a similar or smaller size of grey one. It is definately exist.
but It is so small I cannot take a macro pic with my camera.

Is it possible to change from grey to yellow when it absorbs NO3?
I heard purigen particle can change dark one when it absorbs no3...

I've also noticed theselittle white-yellowish ball in the KZ Carbon. Kind of look like the Al based Phosphate absorb media. Wonder if that's what it is.

Yes, there is somethink white (balls) in there. The carbon particles are very small. Lots of them escaped to my main tank.
Did not use it this month.

              Yeah~

Bob said white(or grey) ball was helping reducing NO3.

Last Month, I have same experience like you escaping to my main tank...
So this time I put it in my filter sock. I use filter sock to only bag for carbon,
              not filter sediments....

                Vince, this sounds plausible. Bob
