Hi Vince, I've used several different salts over the past 8mos. & have settled on mainly Oceanic & once a wk some TM's Pro-Reef[70%-30%] This combination keeps my all my parameters inline with my Ca Rx At first, I was not certain if Oceanic was the cause of "dust" accumulation on the bb. It was not. Most importantly, my corals thrive with Oceanic. There has been some controversy regarding Oceanic & diatoms/red turf algae formation which I have not seen. Bob

      Thanks Bob~
I saw the oceanic salt thread in RC. and they say its CA level is too high, and alk is
too low... so Do you use the mixed salt Oceanic and TM pro?

Yes a 70-30 split to align Ca/Mg/KH & the Ca Rx maintains those with this combo of Oceanic to Pro-Reef. Bob

I think I might order the TM pro and do the 70-30% also to get closer to the NSW levels.. My Ca and Mg are always high after a water change with oceanic.. My corals love it and it dissolves great.. I went to this from IO because IO is not a good salt for the zeovit method...

same story as mine ....is it worth the hassle of mixing 2 diffrent salts ? whats the big deal of high calcium

Nick, too high a Ca level to KH will overun the buffer[elemental imbalance] & cause calification to be slowed or completely inhibited. With ZEOvit, at a KH of 7.5-8 & a salinity of 1.025, the Ca should be ~400- 425ppm. Calification inhibition is manifested by p-e retraction followed by TN, if this imbalance is chronic. Bob

Plus MG is out of whack with Oceanic also... Yea I have been testing alk at 7.4 and Ca at 480 and Mg at 1450 and sometimes higher.. I am not sure how much longer I want this to be happening... Def think its time for TM pro also... Bob when you mix what do you test at? Alk, Ca, Mg

Jeff, the Pro-Reef at 1.025, 79 degrees measures Ca-420/Mg-1240/KH-9.6. Just be careful to not let your alk. rise too much. The 70-30 mix works with my Ca Rx., but yours may differ. Bob

Ok, Bob is that mixed 70-30% or just straight TM pro?

Hi Jeff, sorry for the confusion; those are for TM's Pro-Reef. IME, a higher % of Pro-reef to Oceanic results in an increase in KH >8, but again your % will vary from my 70-30 mix. Bob

IME, the Proreef lowers the Ca/Mg to align the parameter balance in my reef. Bob
