  • Lighting a frag tank

Gday guys, just wondering what you use for lighting a frag tank? (im thinking a shallow tank ..12-15"?)

What type.. K, watt etc etc

I dont care how the frag tank "looks", i just want the best growth/colour.

    Cheers

Josh, I use a 48" AquaMedic hanging light (250wDE's)... I think its overkill. If I had to redo it, I would use T5's.

my god edward I thought I was the only one that liked to spend money lol.. looks damn nice though, thats how my system/frag/hobby/business started, a nice small 80 gallon frag tank, that turned into 800+ gallons.. stupid hobby hehe..

what would you do edward.. 7'x3'x14" tall x 2 for lighting.. sps only frag tanks.. you can do anything money no object, I am so far into it already whats another 1k.

On my tank, I am going to put a 250HQI 10K at one end and a 175 14K at the other - will post pictures when I get a chance.

Its not a frag tank, but I had no problem growing frags in a 12'' tank with 4 VHOs.

ScottW with those tank dimensions I think I would use 2 Lumenarc Reflector 250w 10 - 14k bulbs if you can get a way with it 400w if not.

If at first it doesn't fit get a bigger hammer - Beat to fit paint to match

Edward, that lighting fixture have have cost a pretty penny! Any reason why u went with those types of pendents instead of the ROIII or equivalent?

10k's or 14k's or a combo of 10k's and actinics

Cheers, what are the best actinics? T5 or VHO? im leaning towards T5 with small MHs (150w DE) i guess

hehe, you settin up a frag tank huh? LUCKY! T5's supposedly better compared to other flourescent as long as you get separate reflectors(such as the SSL) for each individual bulb.

good luck, sounds like a fun project

It's a matter of opinion. VHO makes a great actinic. I like T5's because they are brighter. if you use a T5 use their blue or blue plus bulbs. They do a nice job.
