  • Blue LED light.

I ordered this from a place recommended in the other LED thread. This is a 60 LED blue light bulb.

I used an American DJ par 38 can for teh fixture.

I am shinning the light from 3 feet away in this pic.

The first shot was about eighteen inches

This one is just shy of 6 feet away sittin on my kitchen counter aimin at the tank. I plan on angling the lights from the front and sides when they are mounted aboove that tank to get this effect.

please forgive teh quality. SHooting in teh dark without a flash or tripod is a challenge

so would you say the light is pretty bright? (not enough for growth of course, but enough to get some fluorescing even with MH on)

I think it is pretty bright. with the VHO and the MH I am not sure until I see it with the 14K's running and het VHO's going. But angled from the front instead of straight down like most lights are oriented I think it is possible to see some reults. I am going to try it and see. I am willing to be the guinea pig on this one and see. It will be a few months more before we know for sure because I am a few months out from set up.

I like what I see though right now and the investment is not huge to do this. The total cost for three of these is like 120.00 thats light bulbs and cans.

Hi Mike, great thread, btw, do these come in other colors, ie. red, purle, green? Can you place the link of the company where you bought this? Thnx. Bob

They do come in other colors but not purple LOL.

You can do a search on Yahoo for PAr 30 DJ cans to see if you can get them local.

I got mine from a company in Michigan www.geartree.com

the light came from this company

I am not sure what kind of results I will get long term but I want to find out LOL

The light meter will be a nice piece of equipment to have to measure the output of these lights as well as teh 20K spots when they arrive.

I saw a tank today that had 5-400's over it and things looked baked to me. Kind of drownded out the colors and seemed unaturally bright. The tank was only 2 feet longer than my own tank and maybe 6" deeper but it also had a DSB in it.

I am guilty of this type of vegas strip (I am not trying to flame either) lighting on my old tank. I learned from John B.'s 180 later on that its not all aboutthe lighting when I saw the tank looking out of this world with just 175 watt 14K's and VHO's.

I want to take my approach to the next level here and go for a better balance in lighting. It will take some time to figure it out and determine what timing and lights work the best but if I learn somethng (anything) from this it is worth it to me.
