  • NEW LIGHTING SET UP

I was amazed how much light i have now with 2 400w SE luma max reflector compare to my 3 250w DE hamilton Reefstar Deluxe system. I don't have anymore shade spot in my tank. But i have a few question

To get the light work effectively, how far from water do you recommended? I have it hang approx 10-12" from the water.

Will i have enough flow with 1 tunze wavebox and 3000gph return pump split into two return?

    what size tank?

The reefstars suck. I actually had Hamilton ragging me through some friends of mine for me commenting on that in "another" board, but the reality is that the reefstar is a terrible DE system. That being said, any DE system is much more "focused" as a light source vs the Lumenmax.

OOps, tank dimension 5x2x2. Trust me i am tire of Reefstar. Yesterday after finish installing my luma max reflector and fired up the new 20k radium bulbs, i try to remove the hamilton ballast. That darn thing shock me.

I should lower my lights a little. I should keep it around 8" from the water level.

I was actually told by Pacific Garden Supply that the Lumenarcs cover a 4x4 area, but that may be will a 1000W ballast.

I didn't know that. Is that because the bulb has to be fitted close against the top of the reflector?

Yeah that can happen with MH gear. Last week I was screwing in a new bulb while the light was switched OFF and was holding the metal part and BANG!

That is the exact reason why I prefer SE bulbs now.

LAIIIs are rated for 4x4 (as are the lumenmax) with a 1000w ballast in horticultural use. They got those 5000k bulbs....yech.

Mine (the reflectors themselves are about 8" off the top. Seems to work well.

I think you might not keep any LPS in your tank now.
