It's been longer than 6 months ... closer to a year now ... and these bulbs definitely are but the latest product in SDC's foray into the land of dry goods supply. Their price is "right", but I too have yet to see any reliable reviews.

SDC is one of my favorite places to go hunting for livestock ... ridiculous prices (although this is definitely relative), but typically EXCELLENT health/quality/selection ... nice people ... competent organization. As far as their dry goods go ... well ... having things "in stock" has been an issue for SDC for a long time.

Looking forward to hearing folks' assessment.

From an insider I know they are being distributed through Sea Dwelling Creatures. They have apparently been available for about 6 months from what I have been told. I have no experience with the bulb but would love to hear how people like them.

Hey Steve I have been using the 14K variety for some months now here in the shop. They provide good coloration along with VHO's. I dont know who is behind them either though. Seems to be a decent bulb for the price though.

Anyone tried these bulbs before? I picked up 1 each, 175, 250 and 400 over the weekend and I've installed the 400 and the 250. I can't really compare the 400 since I completely cleaned that tank and moved things around. The 250W though is in a dual MH fixture using Icecap ballasts. It's running side by side with a radium and by the second day I could see no difference between it and the 1 month old radium. I think they are making these in 10k and 20k versions but possibly also 14k. Other than it's being made in China I have no idea who is behind it.
BTW, I prefer the look of 10k bulbs along with 03 VHO but in these tanks, all 12" deep, 20k seems to provide better growth and color. 10k needs to be so far off the water and I don't need the spread.
