  • MH heat - 8 250's vs 4 400's

Which setup do you think will cause more heat to be transferred to the tank:

Eight DE 250's using Icecap e-ballasts and ROIII reflectors plus 8x75 watt VHO - 2600 total watts

    or

    four 400 watt 20000k in LAIII reflectors with E-ballasts - 1600 watts

2600w vs 1600w. No brainer. The 1600 is less
    10x3x2 FOWLR (for now)
    BK400ext
RD12 return, 2 RD12 closed loop, wavebox with extension
    MRC kalkmixer
    IKS

That is what I thought, but know it is not a strictly linear thing. Thanks chuck. I should have everything done by the end of the weekend, knowing me and new toys, by the end of the night - Oh why does my son have to have soccer practice.....

You also have the cool ventilation feature with the LAIII's. I was going to duct it up into the attic, helping humidify the desert. ;-)

              Status Dave? what's that?

UPS managed to lose my box for a few days so I just received it on Wednesday. I got the ballasts yesterday and I am still waiting on one bulb from Chris. Fed Ex managed to break one of the original four that he shipped, go figure.

I hope to receive that today, cross my fingers, knock on wood. I will probably get it all set up tonight. I have already put in the mounting points and drilled the reflectors to be able to mount them into the same places on one of the racks that four of my pendants are mounted. It should be an easy install, just takes time.

So, I got it all installed by mid day, half last night, half this morning after soccer. They look great, pretty blue, but great. I am hoping they burn in a little whiter, we'll see. The bulbs are about 14" above the surface of the water and I plan on lowering them to about 10" depending on spread. At 14", they appear just as bright as my previous set-up with 1000 more watts.

I'll take pics when I get a chance, Dave.
