  • New tank lighting?

Hi there im in the process of doing some research about lighting for my new tank the next tank that im going to buy it will be a 65 gallon(US) and its 24" tall by 18" deep and 36" long will a single 250 watt MH 10k SE BLV bulb work i plan to put the mh about 7 to 8 inches above the water right in the middle of the new tank or should i go with 2 150 watt 10k HQI BLV bulb 7 to 8 inches above the water the tank will be mostly sps and a couple of softies well any ideas will be greatly apreciated.

    Thanks

for your tank, given that it's 36" left to right, a single DE isn't IMO optimal. DE pendants are really designed to light 2' segments of tank, and they do that very well, but they don't "spread" well. Now if you are fine with shade zones on either end of the tank, the BLV 10k DE is very nice. If you want the whole thing lit more evenly, get a Lumenarc III and a SE setup.
    10x3x2 FOWLR (for now)

RD12 return, 2 RD12 closed loop, wavebox with extension
    MRC kalkmixer

Right now what i have is a spider reflector 15" long and a SE 250 watt 10k mh bulb that i was thinking of putting in the middle of the tank about 7 to 8 inches above the water that should spread enough to cover the entire lenght of the tank i think.
