  • Ushio/BLV 14k bulb

Got a look at this today. Not over a tank, but in a test fire setup. It's much, much whiter than the Phoenix. Probably a true 14k bulb. Just for those that are interested.

Im running BLV 10kk currently and there is a tinge of yellowness, I guess the 14kk would be pure white without any yellowness? Chuck, would you describe it as icy white?

Again Farish, it was NOT over a tank. It was a test fire setup so it's hard to say, but yeah, leaning towards ice white. Hopefully intense though unlike the hammy 14k which always was sort of...I dunno underwhelming to me.

Nice! I wouldnt mind trying one out too! Another factor to consider is if this bulb makes corals fluoresce instantly like the 14k Phoenix.

Ushio America hasn't released 'em as yet, but soon. The Ushio and BLV 14k will be the same bulb. The packaging literally has Ushio/BLV on it.

Ed, I can't comment on the fluorescing, but it'd be nice.

On a different note, Greg DOES have the BLV 10k available now. That bulb was hard to find for awhile.

I have fired up the new 14k BLV bulb (250W DE) on my e-ballast last night. I having 2x Phoenix side by side and i replaced my left bulb with this. And on appearance (i actually have another 2x 250W DE 10k BLV bulb infront), it looks closer to a 10k bulb and sorry, it didn't have much fluorescing (which i am kinda disappointed). It is real bright though (i guess u can't have both world, brightness & fluorescing). I thought it is even brighter than the 10k bulb (well, maybe cos' my 10k bulb has been running for >6mths already?). It is more white than the 10k bulb but it could be my imagination, i thought i saw a little bit of green tint? Will run it in for another 1 week to observe further..

But anyway, just a disclaimer, the above is purely based on observation.

vince viclite in singapore supposedly has 'em. We're not getting 'em in the US for another month or 2. The "BLV" version (read european) is finished, but they are still making the packaging for the "Ushio" (read US) version.

Looks like this is the name of it: BLV Nepturion 14K

Sing, thanks for the observation! Definitely helps! Any new changes?
