  • alternatives to lumenarcs?

    hi,

i was wondering if there are any good alternatives to Lumenarc SE reflectors. i know they rock, but they are just too friggin huge for my situation right now.

    TIA

As I previously answered over on "the other place", the SLS ROII and the PFO optimal parallel. They are both about spider reflector sized and perform much better than spiders. The LA mini is cute, but I dunno if it performs, b/c a lot of the "why" behind the LAIII is the size. I'd like to see hard numbers on it. And it'd have to be quite a bit better than the ROII and PFO optimal, b/c those two are cheap reflectors (50 with a mogul retail).

        thanks chuck,

i was thinking about using two 250w XM 10k's for now, since color isnt my biggest concern, i mainly want growth. should i use a magnetic or IceCap ballast(s)? if i use the IC, i will have to find a way to connect it to the mogul socket correct? (since PFO and SLS both use their "special" connectors)

oh, BTW, this will be over a 120 (4x2x2)

        TIA

I think you should try the HQI ballast. The XM 10ks will take the abuse for awhile and they aren't all that expensive even they fry out after 6-9 mos. You can get female adapters if you want to connect to ICs. Personally, I wouldn't use IC's unless you've already got 'em. There are other eballasts available and frankly they're all relatively similar and you can get some of the non IC eballasts for cheaper (ie reeffanatic, evc, etc...) Otherwise use a m58

THe RO1's are a great SE reflector also... Much better than any spider type..

              thanks guys

              chuck,
i was looking at sanjays tests and the CCT of the 250w SE XM on M58 ballast is about 12K whereas on the IC is about 11K (reeffanatic is around 13K). does this mean that the XM would be a little blue as well on the M58? shouldnt the CCT be higher on the IC?

              TIA

From what i have heard the 250W xm se is more blue on a mag ballast than most of its competitiors. With great par. If I was running 250w XM se's they would be what I would use

It is a generality that the CCT is higher on electronics than mags. Not a case by case truth

ok, mag ballast it is then. (m58, that is)

which ballast is better, SLS or PFO?
