  • Relocating Ballasts

Have any of you relocated your MH ballast to another room to prevent heat issues in the same room as your aquarium? Im thinking of purchasing a light setup that I can relocate the ballast to the garage and have the pendant fire up over the tank in the living room area. Wonder if this would help.

How far will the lines have to run? I know they loss significant power after 20-25 feet...

PFO told me nothing longer then 16 feet
      8’ cord with socket assembly
AQ EXTENDER 8’ cord to extend cord length to 16’

I would not want to go longer then 16' Edward.

I keep my ballasts out of the cabinet and "around the corner" for that reason. But no, it's not more than 10ft or so. I think the cords that come on the ROIII are that length for a reason.
          10x3x2 FOWLR (for now)

RD12 return, 2 RD12 closed loop, wavebox with extension

I was actually going to go for the Ocean Lights by Aqua Medic (250w DE HQI). Singles. Since I will have a deep tank, I want to be able to move my lights around for the perfect light setup into my new tank. The ballasts come separate on those units. Right now, i own a 72" Aqua Medic setup and a 48" all 250w. Never had any problems and they work just right.

Nick, I would ventilate your fish room and leave your equipment in there. It helps so much having all my equipment in the garage. No heat ever gets to the inside of my home.
