Zeovit and 20k bulbs

    Zeovit and 20k bulbs

    I was wondering if there would still be a need for 20k bulbs if Zeovit already increases overall health in corals, including growth. I was thinking about going with a high-end 14k bulb. What would be the best 14k bulb for coral growth?

    There is never a "need" for 20,000K bulbs, they are for aesthetics. The same goes for 14,000K bulbs. People use these bulbs because they think the blue light looks better, but they are a trade off in intensity and not the ideal choice for lighting at all.

    In the Zeovit guide 10,000K bulbs are recommended, with supplemental actinics to improve aesthetics.

      I cannot get myself to use anything more than 14k I just will not trade growth right now

          Plenty of good choices to go with. I personally like BLV.

                  I do not like 10k color after trying them at all compared to xm20k.. I run 400 watt also though so I still have decent par. If I was 250 or less I would use 14k. 400 watt SE 20k still have more par then most 250DE 10k.. I think only a couple have more if I rem correctly. Been awhile since I looked at sanjays testing.....

                      exactly I want the new 15k XM's bad....but I think I will wait untill the 10k XM's need replacing...
                      Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". (It is thriving whith long tentacle tips...purchased in January 2005.) It has white tentacle tips, I beleive this has something to do with ones that will typically live due to the collection site.

                          The 15k xm is very nice indeed.. I could consider going all 15k when the time comes... Nice crisp white with a hint of blue... I can tell on the bottom of the tank also that it seems briter then the 20k... Highly recommend for 400 watt SE users... Will have a couple reefoptix 1 reflectors here next week and will put the 15k in that and see how it compares the the spiders I am currently using...
