I bought a ballast from Cool Touch Lighting about 8 months ago before I really understood ballasts. I have been doing research on bulbs lately and now know how important and different ballasts are. I bought the 250 watt Metal Halide and VHO combination from them. I have tried to call them lately and ask what ballast I have but I keep getting them when they are closed. Dose anyone know what the standard ballast they give you is when you order a complete lighting canopy setup?

I have no reason to believe they use anything other than an M58 ballast. I have a dual 175 from them. My bulb of chice though is 10K Ushio. The M58 I have DIY style will not fire the Radium consistently BTW.

If the ballast is an M58 it will work. The M58 ballast is a standard, not made for the hobby ballast so quaility of the ballast should not be a concern. The box that Cooltouch uses to put the ballasts and plugs in is great if you like ballast boxes.
The XM is made for probe start ballasts.

Brad... I can't say for sure without knowing for sure what's in the box.
Do you already have it? If so you can open it up and read the tag.

If that is indeed an M58 ballast, then the XM will work fine with it. That's the combination I use.Comment
